Barcelona Nightlife!

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

If you are traveling through Spain searching for a party, Barcelona should be at the top of your list! Besides having fantastic architecture and culture explained in a past blog; Barcelona is a party city. There is always something going on every night of the week! This, mixed with the already positively insane Spanish mentality of going out at midnight and partying until the sunrises, makes for some truly epic memories! From local pubs to Open-Air nightclubs and Cultural Flamenco shows Barcelona offers a night out for any occasion.

If you are visiting this beautiful city for a couple of days and are looking to party, I recommend a Pub Crawl for at least one day. Why? Well, because you can see multiple bars and end the night at a nightclub: you can even meet new people and make incredible friendships. The pub crawl will usually take you to 2 or 3 small bars where you can get a free drink or shot while the people on the crawl can get to know one another. Speaking candidly, after doing my fair share of Pub Crawls, I have realized that the first bars aren't always great. Still, the benefits of the pub crawls are that you can drink completely carefree as the guide will be walking the group from location to location. Your only genuine worry should be ensuring you can still walk home.

Night Clubs:

  • Razzmatazz: This is the biggest Night club in Barcelona and houses 5 differently themed rooms. It is a complete maze, but you are bound to find a space that plays your kind of music. It is such a large club that I have heard of some big bands performing shows in the main room! Razzmatazz Instagram!

  • Sala Apolo: Another big venue, although it is mainly known for its Monday night parties. I have never attended a Monday night there, but I can assure you that other nights are too bad, either. I did have a friend who went on a Monday, and they told me it's called Nasty Mondays, playing all sorts of music from Rock to Pop. Instagram link here!

  • City Hall: No, not the City Hall. This is a club, and it hosts different themed parties every night of the week. Instagram here!

  • Otto Zutz: This hip-hop club has an east coast industrial theme. They do play other music, but they are mainly known for hip-hop. Otto Zutz Instagram.

  • Marula: This club is central and has more of a Jazz vibe if you want a change of pace kinda night. You can check out Marula Cafe on Instagram.

  • Sutton: Just as how British the name suggests, Sutton is Chic and fancy. So if you want to get all dressed up and have a glamorous bougie night out, this club is definitely the one. The entrance is impressive as you have to walk down a lit-up hallway, and everything screams fancy. You can check out their Instagram here to see what I mean.

  • Jamboree Jazz: Very cool establishment with an excellent atmosphere. The cellar-like main room reminded me of The Cavern Club in Liverpool, where The Beatles first played. Anyway, this was the first club I ever went to in Barcelona, and it was so fun that I kept in touch with the friends I made that night. The Instagram link is right here!

Beach Clubs:

Beachfront lounges and clubs are the way to go, especially during the warmer months. Here is a list of three I know.

  • Opium

  • Shoko

  • Pacha Barcelona

There is one completely open-air club that opens only in the summer. This club is called La Terrrazza Barcelona. It is a must-see because it makes you feel like you are in a semi-festival environment. Still, from what I remember, it was an entertaining night and a different experience than the warm, crowded clubs where you sometimes need to take a breather and walk outside.

Neighborhoods to check out random nightlife:

Suppose you want to know the typical places where you will find the bars and clubs listed above and other cool hidden spots. In that case, you should stick to the Gothic Quarter, Barceloneta, El Born, Raval, and the Olympic Port. Raval and El Born border Las Ramblas, perhaps Barcelona's most famous street. You can find some fantastic hidden gems at night in either of these places and on Las Ramblas. My favorite is Stereo 18; this bar mainly plays 80's and 90's music, and let me tell you, it's a very chill vibe! I was introduced to it by a few buddies attending a bartending school in Barcelona. In that same little square, there are a few bars and one directly across the street called Bar Sauvage. In the same plaza as Jamboree is a bar called Rei de Copes, a smaller bar, but with the right group, it can be very fun! The Happy Hour deals help a lot as well, haha.

Well, I hope you found this helpful and have a fun night partying in Barcelona! Just remember to be aware of pickpockets around Las Ramblas. Cheers!
